  • The Rat-L-Trap Lure has always been a "go to" lure for theBASSguys and it was no exception on this trip. We caught lots of bass and pike with them!
  • We just can't say enough positive things about this fantastic Canyon reel. It is a smooth handling and reliable reel that does its job flawlessly cast after cast. They have many others in their lineup so before you go to the other guys for a reel check Canyon Reels first!!
  • The KastKing line of moderately priced Perigee rods were brand new to us. We worked them heavily under many conditions and they performed flawlessly! If you are thinking about adding a new rod to your collection make sure you give them some serious consideration. And check out their Copolymear line as well... this line TOTALLY wipes out the competition in price and performance!!
  • Carrotstix is giving the highend rod makers a run for their money! The GUYS have no doubt that these gorgeous rods will become a standard for the serious sport fisherman who wants a top quality rod that will not break their bank account. You NEED to check them out!
  • MANUFACTURERS... We can put your sport fishing products in front of thousands of targeted eyeballs for a fraction of the cost you would normally spend to do this!

Gananoque Lake is our home base when visiting Canada and we always enjoy some great fishing here. But because of drought like conditions here the lake level was down an historic low of 1 1/ 2 to 2 feet below normal. The low water impacted fishing activity for us to some extent but we still caught some nice fish, although not in the numbers we were used to.

On previous trips here we field trialed lures we received from Livingston and Rat-L-Trap lures. They provided us with some more new ones for this trip and we were excited to give them a workout. We also brought along CarrotStix Wild Black Baitcaster Rodour Carrotstix and KastKing rods again that we have been using for some time now. These rods have held up beautifully on both fresh and saltwater thus far and we used them heavily on this lake, and a couple of new spots we never fished before... Charleston Lake, and the St Lawrence river. We will publish a seperate Trip Page for each of these locations in the near future so check back often.

CARROTSTIX spinner and baitcaster rods were used thoughout this trip and we put some heavy usage on them. We used these rods all of last season and we wanted to put them to the test again on some heavy bass and pike action. These rods are "extremely light weight" and come with the new split grip design in both spinning and baitcaster versions.

We own some of the other BIG name /expensive rods on the market and the CarrotStix rods are equal to and BETTER in performance then ALL of them!! And the PRICE point on these high end rods are well BELOW what you would expect to pay so do yourself a favor and check CarrotStix out before going to those other guys.

KASTKING, a division of ePoseidon, provided us with a selection of their Perigee spinning and baitcaster rods, and some spools of ltheir Copolymer line. We were looking for gear in the moderate price range and found them with KASTKING. They offer a quality and performance line of gear that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else. The rods are super sensitive, well constructed, and come with the split grip designs that we prefer. We have used them in the upper and lower bays of New York harbor for fluke and blue fish and they handled these fish with NO problems. The real jewel we found was their Copolymer line... we experienced NO slinky or line twist issues so far with this line and that was a BIG plus for us. And how does $7.99 for 12LB, 330 yds of line sound to you!

As for lures we started with a selection of LIVINGSTON LURES as they are well suited for the conditions we were fishing under. Tthese hightec little jewels produced some outstanding catches of large and smallmouth bass, and northern pike action ALL week long. We will be using these lures all season and especially in our upcoming fall trips on the Hackensack River for Stripers!

Next on our list of "go to" lures were some new RAT-L-TRAP lures provided to us by our friends at Bill Lewis Outdoors. These lures are Pike magnets and they worked just as well on the bass we targeted. AL "set the hook" loved them as he caught lots of fish with them.

Let it be said that theBASSguys just love to use SOFT PLASTICS on every lake, reservoir, river, stream we visit and the lakes we fished on this trip were no exception. We fished stick baits in the 4" to 6" size in texas rig style, and wacky rig style and caught lots of fish all week long. The beauty of these baits is you do not need to add any weight to them.
